Steppin' Out

My mosaic boot was made in response to a book by Mischa Gillingham called "Blooms and Dreams." The author decided, with her family, to give up her high-heeled fast-paced life in Los Angeles and instead live on and cultivate a farm on Bainbridge Island in Washington state. She traded in her high heels for colorful farm boots. On her farm, Mischa grows beautiful flowers and vegetables, and raises many kinds of animals. The farm has some watery stream features with steppingstones to hop on to get to the other side, so I decided to place my boot on a steppingstone in the water in which there are floating fused-glass blossoms and leaves. The interior of the boot is hollow in order to accommodate a vase filled with flowers.
