Almost Winter
Almost Winter captures the inbetween season in New England when the parade of fall color has passed, leaves on the ground are still intact but dull, and all is exposed on the forest floor. Small splashes of green are visible in mixed forests due to moss, fungi, conifers and not-quite-dead perennials. Here and there you can see haunting, hulking deciduous tree survivors who once lined the rural road, surrounded now by young growth. Everything feels so cold because we haven’t acclimated, yet, to this long pause before true winter. The skies seem to be gray for days on end; this is a gift, however, as it enables us to see the details more clearly.
