Aurora Borealis

This mosaic is inspired by the breathtaking aurora borealis display in Maine on May 10, 2024—a sight I had long dreamed of witnessing in person. The experience was everything I had hoped for, with the aurora’s vivid colors easily seen without a camera, moving me deeply as I watched them dance across the sky. Through the camera lens, the aurora revealed additional layers of shade and dimension, offering a visually distinct experience.

To capture the essence of what I saw and felt, I crafted this mosaic using a variety of stones, including marble, limestone, travertine, and slate. I chose these materials to convey the natural beauty and texture of the scene as I experienced it, without the aid of a camera. The result is a piece that reflects the subtle, yet profound, interplay of light and movement that captivated me for several hours.
